STEM
Norman Castles
The senior room had great fun designing and building Norman Castles after learning about them in line with the History Curriculum. Using what they discovered, students planned and constructed their own models, linking their work to all areas of STEM. They used engineering skills to build strong structures, maths to measure and scale, and science to explore materials and stability. It was a hands-on and creative project that developed teamwork and communication skills.
Maths Week
As part of Maths Week, pupils across the school explored symmetry in creative and hands-on ways. One of our highlights was our 'Spooky Symmetry' art activity, where students used their understanding of symmetry to design spooky cauldrons just in time for Halloween! Each cauldron showcased perfectly mirrored patterns which the children achieved by painting one half of a page, folding it in half, and opening it to reveal the symmetrical design. We used pom poms to create symmetrical bubbles. We also noticed symmetry in our environment, an example we noticed was the Casino Marino in Dublin.
The children also took part in a range of fun and engaging maths games, enabling them to explore maths in a playful and interactive way.
